  • Ghana

Balancing carbohydrates in Ghana is surprisingly simple. The traditional vegetable stew has vegetables and protein in the form of chicken, beef, or salmon. Add boiled vegetables and a fresh salad and you’re good to go.

  • Martinique

The Caribbean is known for its fresh fruit but this island is known for a dramatic increase in diabetes. The inhabitants are focused on lowering sugar intake. The traditional meal of fried plantains, yams, and fatty conch fricassee is on its way out. Today, local fish and vegetables are important and healthy. Fresh fruit and vegetables are increasingly important in Martinique.

  • Japan

The Japanese have always been keen on fish which are full of omega-3 fatty acids. These have been shown to aid heart and brain health. Interestingly, the modern  Japanese diet is gravitating more toward a western-style diet. Chicken, pork, and beef have become popular but fish and sushi remain healthy traditional favorites.

  • Canada

Vegetables and grain dishes are becoming increasingly popular across Canada. These are gluten-free or vegan dishes that many of the younger generations now choose as a healthy meal. It’s also common to find lower dairy intakes than the country previously adhered to.

Discover The Dietary Guidelines Of these Countries

It’s certainly fair to say that the eating habits of different countries still remain vastly different from each other. Yet, most societies are now more focused on eating healthily.

This is reflected by the latest dietary guidelines by country. Despite human beings everywhere having the same nutritional needs, the dietary guidelines around the world are surprisingly different.

However, while the specific amount of carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals varies from country to country, the basic guidelines remain the same.

These are to avoid processed foods, specifically bad fats, and sugar. To eat more heart and brain-healthy fish, get at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day, choose starchy foods, drink plenty of water, and avoid eating more than 6g of salt a day.

Of course, exercise should also be undertaken to accompany a healthy diet, this is true regardless of where you live in the world.

The Final Diet

The secret to a healthy plate is to embrace locally produced foods. These are generally the ones most in tune with nature and the human body. Of course, anything is permissible but everything should be consumed in moderation.

Beyond this, your aim should be to focus on your diet as a whole as opposed to individual nutrients. It’s also important not to panic if you don’t get the balance right every day, if you’re heading in the right direction then it’s acceptable to have some good days and some bad.

Eating healthily needs to be a habit, regardless of which healthy food you’re eating around the world.
